1. WHAT IS A "CAMPAIGNING" HOME?
This is a family/person that actively participates in events sponsored by the United Kennel Club (the primary coonhound
registry) as well as some of the other Kennel Clubs such as AKC, NKC, ACHA and PKC. Events that are open to coonhounds
are: Nite Hunting Events, Bench Showing Events, Water Race Events and Field Trial Events.
2. WHAT IS A "COMPETITION" HOME OR A "COMPETITION HUNTER"?
These terms are general indicative of someone that campaigns his hounds in the above mentioned HUNTING events and these
terms are used to differientiate between a "pleasure hunter or hide hunter" and a competition (title) hunter.
3. WHERE CAN I FIND OUT IF THERE ARE COONHOUND EVENTS IN MY AREA?
There are coonhound events all across our nation. You can either Subscribe to the Coonhunters GUIDE to events-
"COONHOUND BLOODLINES" or you can check upcoming events on the UKC website at www.ukcdogs.com
. Be sure to go into the coonhound section and then look to the top right for upcoming events. They will be listed
by state and will include dates and directions for the events.
4. WHAT TYPE OF GAME WOULD A REDBONE BE USED FOR?
Raccoon is the #1 game of choice. Some hunters also use redbones for hunting bear, bobcat and occasionally squirrel.
Coonhounds are NOT used for rabbit or for quail, pheasant or any other type of "sight" hunting. A coonhound is
a scent hound and does not have the sight instincts of a sight hound and can not be expected to flush out game. They
are a scent hound and their treeing instinct is 2nd to none.
5. WHY ARE YOU SO STRICT ON PLACING MOST OF YOUR HOUNDS/PUPPIES INTO CAMPAIGNING HOMES
RATHER THAN PET HOMES?
Dedicated is a better word actually. The fact is simple, no breeder should be making a cross (having a litter of
puppies) without the primary goal being to try to improve the redbone breed. If a breeder is truly dedicated- they will
want their puppies placed in homes where they will get the opportunity to compete. Competition is the primary way for
a breeder to look back at the growing puppies and determine if a cross (breeding) has been successful- to determine what strengths
or weaknesses are seen in the litter and to determine if the breeding should be made again.
"Pet" homes prohibit a puppy from reaching his potential as they are never put to the test- so to speak- in hunting,
showing, etc to determine if the cross was successful. As a puppy buyer- I would shy away from any redbone kennel (or
any other breed) where there is NOT an emphasis placed on putting as many of the puppies in the litter into homes that will
at minimum pleasure hunt the puppy. "Pet" puppies should only be shown when- for whatever reason- the breeder has decided
that a particular puppy/dog is better suited for the life of leisure and where the breeder is chosing to remove the hound
from the competition circuit and breeding potential. There are many reasons that a breeder could choose to do this and
NONE mean that the puppy is inferior to his littermates. It just means that in the opinion of the breeder- the puppy
either has a confirmation fault that will hinder it in confirmation showing events, is smaller than the breeder would like
to see used for breeding, is not rambunctious enough to make a great hunter or lacks hunting drive. For a pet-- none
of these things will hinder your puppy/dog and in fact- many of them will make him a better pet.
5. WHY WILL YOU NOT ALLOW PET DEPOSITS TO BOOK AN UPCOMING LITTER?
Because there is no way to know if there will be puppies in the litter that are better suited for a pet home until they
are on the ground and in many cases several weeks old.
6. WHAT IF I AM JUST GETTING INTO COMPETITION HUNTING AND SHOWING? DO I QUALIFY
AS A "CAMPAIGNING" HOME?
Absolutely!!! We all got started sometime and Rob and I are happy to help YOU get started by getting you a quality
sound puppy that will best suit your needs. We are also always available for advice on hunting or showing tips.
We are just an e-mail or phone call away!
7. WHAT IF I NEED MY PUPPY/DOG SHIPPED?
We will handle the arrangements in most cases. Keep in mind that airline travel is expensive. We will be
shipping Delta Pet First whenever possible (when weather allows) out of Cincinnati/Covington, KY Airport and when weather
requires a Pressurized Cabin- we will ship via Continental out of Columbus, OH. We prefer to ship to a MAJOR airport
to minimize the number of connecting flights that the puppy/dog will endure. In most cases, we are able to get the puppy
to you on a direct flight by sticking with the major airports.
8. HOW MUCH ARE THE AIRLINE FEES?
Fees will vary by whether we use Delta or Continental. For a PUPPY- fees would typically look like this:
Airline Fee (Delta) $170, (Continental) $192
OUR Handling/Transport Fee to Airline: $60
Shipping Crate (Medium) $40
Vet Certificate required for travel: $30
Adults are more expensive and prices are subject to change at any time.
9. CAN I USE A DOG HAULING SERVICE?
In most cases, yes. There are a couple of current haulers in business that we simply refuse to allow our
hounds to travel with due to a bad experience in the past. Dog hauling fees are generally similar to shipping fees and
need to be planned much further in advance to ensure that the puppy/ or dog is picked up by the pickup date.
Another possibility is that we will transport the puppy for you if we are traveling to a major event in your area.
Also, whenever possible, I try to put puppy buyers in touch with one another that live within a reasonable distance of
one another to see if one buyer might like to pick up BOTH puppies and the 2nd buyer can retrieve their puppy from the buyer
making the trip. The only thing that I ask in these situations is that the buyer NOT making the drive MUST help reimburse
the driver GAS MONEY. With gas prices as high as they are, it is unfair to expect someone to do you a favor and save
you the drive and NOT reimburse gas. PLEASE- if you take advantage of this type of situation- do NOT take "NO" for an
answer- please help the person nice enough to help you out with gas.
10. HOW ARE YOUR DOGS REGISTERED AND WHAT TYPES OF EVENTS DO YOU ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE
All of our hounds are UKC registered, most of them are also AKC registered, a few are PKC, NKC and/or ACHA registered.
Our primary focus is on UKC so all of our hounds are worked in confirmation (bench shows) to their champion and grand champion
degrees. Since our primary focus is the "DUAL PURPOSE" hound- we strive to create dogs that will win on the bench AND
in the woods so most of our older hounds will hold a minimum of a NITE CHAMPION title and a few are GRNITECH. We also
participate in water races & field trials whenever they are close enough and practical.
11. OK- SO WHAT DO THOSE TITLES MEAN?
CH= Show Champion (1st title achieved for a show dog)
GRCH= Grand Show Champion (the highest title for a show dog)
NITECH= Nite Champion (1st titled achieved for a hunting dog)
GRNITECH= Grand Nite Champion (The PREMIERE title of titles!!! The highest title for a hunting dog)
WCH= Water Champion (1st title achieved for a water racing dog)
GRWCH= Grand Water Champion (the highest title for a water racing dog)
FCH= Field Champion (1st title achieved for a dog that races in DAYTIME hunting trials)
GRFCH= Grand Field Champion (highest title achieved for a dog that races in DAYTIME hunting trials)
12. I SEE THAT YOU OFFER A "FREE" PUPPY TO ANYONE THAT MAKES ONE OF THEIR TREE RIZIN'
PUPPIES A NITECH OR A GRNITECH. WHAT IF I OWN A PUPPY FROM TREE RIZIN' BUT DID NOT BUY IT FROM YOUR KENNEL?
As long as your puppy is SIRED by one of our stud dogs (currently RAZOR & T-REX)- it doesn't
matter WHERE you bought your puppy so if you acquire one of our puppies from someone that bred to one of our boys and finish
it to NITECH or GRNITECH then-YES- you still are eligible for your next puppy at no charge. This puppy
can be out of the sire of your choice (as available).
13. WHAT HAPPENS IF THE PUPPY I BOOKED IS NOT AVAILABLE?
There will be times where a female "misses" or simply does not have enough puppies to satisfy all of the deposits, in
those cases- we will roll your deposit over to another puppy as is described on our "CONTACT" page.
14. WHAT IF I CHANGE MY MIND & DECIDE NOT TO GET MY PUPPY/DOG?
ALL deposits received are NON-REFUNDABLE. If you do not pick up your puppy when ready (generally 8 wks old) or
older puppy or adult within TWO WEEKS of committment (defined as the day that we consider the puppy YOURS- either by verbal/written
agreement or by way of deposit receipt)- you will forfeit your deposit and the puppy/dog will be resold.
15. I HAVE A REDBONE FEMALE THAT I WANT
TO BREED, CAN I BREED TO ONE OF YOUR STUD DOGS?
That depends. If your female holds no hunting titles and is not hunted than we will likely decline service to Razor
& T-Rex and maybe some of our other males. Please see our Stud Dog page to see who is available and their restrictions.
16. WHY WILL YOU NOT BREED MY SHOW CHAMPION OR PET COMPANION FEMALE TO YOUR TOP STUD
We are trying hard to be sure that our primary stud dogs are producing at a quality that makes them worthy of being bred
since they will be used on a higher scale than the others. To do this effectively, we must make sure that the puppies
they produce are put into the hands of hunters that will put them in competition so that we can make sure that our breeding
efforts are working to better the breed. With that in mind, it has been our experience that even though a female is
"bred" to hunt and could very well produce BETTER than a GRNITECH female- if the female is not hunted, as a general rule-
the same care to place those puppies into competition homes is not there by the owner since competition is not important to
them personally. I know that it may not be the case EVERY TIME but as a general rule- our experience has shown that
if a female is competition hunted that the owner will make a greater effort to place the puppies into competition homes
and we will have a greater opportunity to make sure that our stud is producing positively. Please know that it is NOT
our intent to make an untitled female or her owner feel that she isn't "worthy" of being bred. We have just chosen this
path to try to ensure proper placement of puppies.
17. WHAT TYPE OF HEALTH GUARANTEE DO YOU OFFER?
The Buyer agrees to have the dog/puppy examined by your veterinarian at your expense within three (3) days from date
of purchase. If the veterinarian does not pronounce the dog to be healthy, Buyer must notify Tree Rizin' Redbones immediately.
Tree Rizin' reserves the right to have the dog/puppy re-examined by our veterinarian at our cost. Tree Rizin' does not
accept responsibility for contagious disease dianosed after three (3) days from date of purchase. Note:

back to Tree Rizin' immediately.
